Headache Dietary Triggers



Dietary triggers do not always contribute to headache in all people. particular foods may triggers attacks in certain individuals on an occasion. One should be his/her own expert by keep tracking foods have been eaten before a migraine attack. Most of the time the removal of these foods from the diet reduce or eliminate the headaches.

Tyramine is a substance produced in foods from the natural breakdown of the amino acid tyrosine, and it is known for its contribution to headache related to diet. The level of Tyramine increases in foods when they are fermented, aged, stored, and kept for long time- in other words not fresh such leftovers.

General guidlines to follow:

  • Food should be prepared and eaten fresh. be careful with leftovers held more than 2 days in the refrigerator specially high protein foods.

  • Avoid eating high sugar content foods on an empty stomach, when excessively hungry or replacing a meal.

  • Each person have different degree of sensitivity to Tyramine. If you are not on Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitor (MAO), you should test the use of restricted food on a limited amounts.
