Does Detox Diet/ Water Really Work?


Consumers are bombarded with the idea of detoxification, and that our body requires a detox treatment to get rid of the toxins, thereby; restoring health, energy, and balance.

Does the body need help?

Detox/ cleansing proponents claim that body can not fully get rid of harmful substances by itself, which a false claim for several reasons. The body's inartistic detoxification system is remarkably versatile. The organ that is responsible and efficient enough to remove noxious substances form our body is the liver. It contain various enzymes that convert toxins into less harmful then dissolve it in water to be discarded through urination. The kidneys plays a major role as well in absorbing these substances to be excepted. The gastrointestinal tract itself is a harsh environment that prevents harmful bacteria from entering our body. Where the liquid harmful substance get detoxified by kidneys, the colon is responsible for solid waste.

Following such a detox diet, which is usually severely restricted for prolong period, may effect the body causing side effects such lack of nutrients, decreased energy, lightheadedness, headache, and nausea.

Why do people lose weight, feel energized, and these diets/ water become so popular?

These diets are like any other diets, the loss of weight after several days is due to the loss of water content not the fat that is burned. Long detox diets will have adverse effect after the course is done that is likely presents in a loss of muscle mass or regain weight. It also can lead to the slow of metabolic rate.

Detox supplements are not far from its adverse effects too. Most of the marketed supplements are laxative and diuretics. They can cause dehydration, electrolytes depletion.

And for the reason why people feel better and energized, is due to the fact that most of the detox diet/ water regime based on elimination of highly processed food and sugar. Simply avoiding these high-calorie, low-nutrients are part of why people feel better.

This diet get its fuzz and popularity by the peoples' desire for "quick health fix". It seems attractive to many people knowing that they could fix the health implications from a poor diet, lack of exercise and sleep, to bad habits of smoking with just a period of overindulgence during weekends, holidays, and vacations.

However, it is good to mention that regard detox water although they are not really detoxifying your body solely, the water is infused with slight amount of vitamins and minerals come from adding fruits and vegetables.
