Cholelithiasis "Gallstones" and Diet


Most people never pay attention to the health of their gallbladder. It plays major role in storing bile that help digest mainly fats. Unlike other organs in the body such heart, liver, and kidneys, gallbladder malfunction and gallstones development is most of the times unnoticeable. Yet in small percentage of people, symptoms such abdominal pain, bloating, nausea, and discomfort shortly after having meals. When the gallbladder is malfunctioned and symptoms occur frequently, the "Cholescytectomy" the removal of the gallbladder is the treatment.


After the removal of the gallbladder, diet is usually modified depending on individual tolerance. a diet low in fat and cholesterol, moderate in calories, and high in soluble fibers is usually advisable. Soluble fibers act as binder that enclave cholesterol molecules then execrated from the body. Certain foods have been studied for their potential to prevent gallbladder problems or reduce symptoms. For example, some research has indicated that drinking caffeinated coffee lowers the risk of gallstones in both men and women. On the other hands there are some foods that should be avoided or consumed in moderation such fried foods, highly processed foods (doughnuts, pie, cookies), whole-milk dairy products (cheese, ice cream, butter), and fatty red meat.
